Glycochenodeoxycholic acid, sodium salt is a bile acid that functions to solubilise fats for digestive absorbtion. By acting as a biosurfactant, Glycochenodeoxycholic acid, sodium salt can solubilize lipids for absorption and is itself absorbed. Glycochenodeoxycholic acid, sodium salt may act to inhibit calcium phosphate preciptiation by preventing the formation of amorphous calcium phosphate to calcium hydroxyapatite. Glycochenodeoxycholic acid, sodium salt has also been shown to induce apoptosis in isolated hepatocytes via modulation of PKC activity.
