Description
This compound is an oxidation product of adrenaline (ephinephrine, norepinephrine). It inhibits Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), promotes the synthesis of prostaglandins in brain tissue in vitro, promotes the secretion of nerve growth factor by L-M cells, inhibits hexokinase and succinic dehydrog enase, and acts as a powerful stimulant of guanylcyclase activity in cell free systems. It is not clear which, if any, of these have physiological significance.
