Datasheets
  • Santa Cruz Biotechnology Luminol reagent is a non-radioactive, light-emitting system for detecting proteins on a Western blot membrane. Horseradish peroxidase mediates oxidation of Luminol reagent in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and this reaction produces an iridescent light.
  • Western blotting Luminol reagent is recommended for Western blotting enhanced chemiluminescence applications using Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugated secondary antibodies.
  • One Western blotting Luminol reagent package contains 125 ml each Solution A and Solution B, which combine to form sufficient chemiluminescence reagent for a 2,000 cm squared membrane area.
  • Extended exposure times (multiple exposures) to film made possible by long-duration signal
  • Western blotting Luminol reagent solutions are stable at room temperature for one hour. Store at 2-8° C for longer periods up to 12 months. Store in the dark.

Luminol reagent, primarily utilized in Western blotting, is a chemiluminescent compound that plays a critical role in detecting proteins. This chemical functions by emitting light upon oxidation, a reaction that is catalyzed by the presence of an oxidizing agent and enhanced in the presence of a catalyst. In the context of Western blotting, luminol is part of the detection system where it reacts with the secondary antibody-conjugated horseradish peroxidase (HRP). This luminescence allows for the precise quantification and visualization of proteins transferred onto a membrane, making it an invaluable tool in molecular biology for protein identification and quantification. Researchers harness this capability to analyze protein expression, post-translational modifications, and protein-protein interactions in various biological samples. Santa Cruz Biotechnology′s Luminol package contains 125 ml each Solution A and Solution B, which combine to form sufficient reagent for a 2,000 cm2 membrane area. For Research Use Only. Not Intended for Diagnostic or Therapeutic Use.
