1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-Phosphatidylcholine (L-DPPC) is a zwitterionic phosphoglyceride that has been used for the preparation of liposomal monolayers. Preparation of proteoliposomes formed with L-DPPC exhibited a five-fold increase in γ-glutamyl transpeptidase incorporation into erythrocyte membranes, as compared to control membranes. Research has also indicated that DPPC-liposomes could serve effectively as a delivery vehicle for inducing immune responses against glycosphingolipid antigens.
