Description
Chlorothricin is a spirotetronic acid macrolide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces antibioticus. Chlorothricin demonstrates inhibition of cholesterol biosynthesis by impeding on the mevalonate pathway. Chlorothricin is described to inhibit pyruvate carboxylases isolated from both Bacillus stearothermophilus and chicken livers, and to inhibit acetyl coenzyme A (CoASAc)-independent oxalacetate synthesis by pyruvate carboxylase of rat liver.
