Description
Grayanotoxin III is a member of the family of Grayanotoxins isolated from the flowers of Rhododendron and from honey derived from the flowers. Grayanotoxin III modulates Na+ ion channels at inhibitory and excitatory nerve terminals and affects the polarization states of the channels. This produces an effect on the voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels, increasing influx of Ca2+, and leading to subsequent release of GABA and glutamates and presentation of excitotoxicity.
